Ceremony and Reception at Talon Winery

We are so excited at Jeanie Gorrell Floral Design because this wedding is featured on Style Me Pretty’s Little Black Book.

Despite its ordinary past, burlap is one of the hottest trends in weddings.  It reminds us of old rustic sacks of grains, coffee beans, rice or cocoa.  It offers texture and suggests reuse and repurpose.  Lindsay’s wedding was a mix of rustic elements like mason jars, a vintage bird cage (available for rental), burlap runners, burlap ribbon and a sliced wooden cake stand.  Here are some beautiful images provided by Cat Satre.

Lindsay’s bouquet was a beautiful mix of white freesia, light peach spray roses, white dahlias, green lisianthus, lime hypericum berries, queen anne’s lace, scabiosa pods, bupleureum, and dusty miller.

Lindsay (the wedding planner) and I swaged white sheer fabric and burlap across the gazebo. We also tied bouquets of flowers with burlap on each side.  Flowers included Bells of Ireland, football mums, queen anne’s lace, peach limonium and greens. Shepherd hooks (available for rental) lined the aisle.

Here are some photos I took of the centerpieces….

Love the cake stand!

Relaxed, casual, fun and a beautiful wedding!!!

Breathtaking images by Deanna Kaye Photography and Jeanie Gorrell.

Julie’s and Pete’s wedding took place at Welcome Hall in Versailles, KY.  Welcome Hall is a 7 generation family owned farm built in 1792.  It looks much the same today as it did 200 years ago.  Tall trees, limestone fences and horses surround the main house.

The formal garden created in the 1930′s is archived in the Smithsonian Institute. Kentucky native, Jon Carloftis acclaimed garden designer included this garden in his book Hidden Gardens of Kentucky.  Welcome Hall is on the front cover.

Julie’s wedding took place in the main garden under a white gazebo.

Flowers were abundant, but not overstyled.  The collections of blooms including lisianthus, lilac, garden roses, gerber daisies looked as if it were picked straight from a garden.  Amnesia roses and velvety gray leaves of dusty miller speak of centuries old gardens.

Fluffy pink peonies….mmmmmm

Plenty of ribbons and flowers to flutter in the breeze.

Birds are a popular motif for a garden wedding.  Centerpieces included bird cages with floral garlands.

Here are the other centerpieces….

And here is a large floral for the food table.

Other fun details…

And finally, here are the floral designers (Windy and Jeanie) after a busy day at work.

We did it!

Wicked!

Our team at Jeanie Gorrell Floral Design is proud to be a part of the 2nd Annual Lexington Children’s Theatre Celebrity Curtain Call.  This year’s theme is “Goes Wicked” benefiting LCT and the 130,000 children LCT serves each year.  The cocktail attire event included food and wine from local dining establishments and 2 auctions. Following the reception, a cast of over 20 local personalities and community leaders performed scenes highlighting some of LCT’s favorite villains.  Some local celebrities included were University of Kentucky’s football coach Joker Phillips, Miss Kentucky Mallory Ervin, my beautiful mother-in-law Grace Gorrell and handsome father-in-law Brian Gorrell.

Here are a few images of the wicked centerpieces.

Doesn’t the Anthurium remind of the Wicked Witch’s nose?!

Flowers for the Hilton

Remember when pink was a sissy color?  Not any more!!  Pink is back and remains a popular color for weddings.  Think of all the great colors that you can combine with pink.….for example, pink & black (chic)….  pink & brown (sophisticated)…. pink & orange (modern)….and pink & green (preppy and fresh).

Here’s Brandi’s wedding from Spring of 2009.  Her bouquet was a mixture of peonies, gerber daisies, anemones, ranunculus, calla lilies, spray roses, hypericum berries and hyacinth.  No more matchy, matchy…brides are letting their attendant’s personalities shine with varying styles of dresses and customizing the bridesmaids’ bouquets.  Each bridesmaid carried a complementary bouquet of one type of pink flower.

Flower Girl Kissing Ball

We added a little bling to the bridal bouquet and the centerpieces.  Diamond buckles did the trick.

And here is a new addition to my rental inventory….A Wishing Tree!!

Wish Tree

As guests arrive they write best wishes to the bride and groom and hang them from the tree.

I have the best Momma in the world!!  These photos are from my Mom’s b-day!!

Isn’t she beautiful?!

These centerpieces were made for the Lexington Children’s Theatre luncheon for the Red Badge of Courage play.

Asian Inspired Wedding

Mary’s wedding was Asian-inspired. Red, black and white were her bridal colors.   I love the cup cake stand!!  Mary  designed and built it herself.  Her father-in-law built the arbor.  The arbor now sits as a focal point in their backyard.  What a great idea!!

Expressive, singular blooms and sculptural designs standout in this wedding.

Ginger, dendrobium orchids, roses, manzanita branches, feathers and tropical leaves take main stage.

Habitat Wedding

Here is a wedding from September of last year.  This wedding took place at Talon Winery.  Jenny’s wedding focused on a popular trend in floral design called “Habitat“.  Habitat, according to the California Cut Flower Commission is “a concern for the Earth, its flora and fauna.  It provides a restful, serene and studious environment that communicates one’s ecological values, respecting the delicate balance between the Earth and its people”.  Collected and recycled elements are key components to this style.  Jenny used reclaimed wood, recycled wine bottles and hemp linens for the tables.

Flowers of interesting form and texture are showcased.  Some of the flowers shown are cockscomb, dusty miller, grasses, pin cushion protea, kale, chocolate cosmos, orchids, etc.

We also used grapevine from the winery in tall cylinder vases.

Jenny’s dad built this modern cup cake stand.
